FLINT (WJRT) (6/12/2019) – General Motors President Mark Reuss has confirmed speculation that the automaker is investing an additional $ 150 million to boost heavy-duty light truck production at Flint Assembly.
The investment will help the plant manufacture an additional 40,000 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickup trucks, which are growing in demand.
"We have been working hard for five years in a row trying to produce as many trucks as possible," Reuss said at a press conference held Wednesday in the factory.
The first remodeled Silverado and Sierra 2020 models are shipped from the factory and are expected to arrive on dealer lots as of Monday. The models are the first with a brand new look.
Reuss was previously at Flint on Feb. 5, when he announced that the plant would receive 1,000 relocated jobs from GM mills now closed. These workers moved to the Flint area and started their new job on June 3rd.
Flint Assembly is now GM's largest facility with 3,500 hourly and payroll jobs. According to Reuss, GM has invested $ 1.6 billion in Flint since 2013, as the popularity of its vans increases.
