Darold Ferguson is an idea guy.

Most people of the general public know Ferguson through his pseudonym rap, A $ AP Ferg, and to the hit songs that he has composed as a solo artist and with his New York-based team, A $ AP Mob. But within the industry, Ferguson is known for the breadth of projects and businesses he's involved in, from fashion to music to art (his latest painting is a self-portrait which represents a fried egg representing his brain with drugs).

In fact, Ferguson, 30, started his first professional career in college, he told Business Insider in a recent interview.

"I would have kids who would bring their t-shirts, I would have drawn them and I would have charged them $ 30 for a design," Ferguson said. He did it for about a year until he started wanting to earn more money and his father, who ran a clothing store and created logos for records like Bad Boy Records, taught him to print silkscreen.

"He was suffering from kidney failure and was getting sick, so he taught me the job," he said of his father, who died while Ferguson was a teenager.

Ferguson sold T-shirts to many musical artists, including rapper Jadakiss, although he confessed to messing up the Jadakiss command once because he had not let it dry out. -shirts. Nevertheless, the company has been a success overall.

"I've never had less than $ 400 in my pocket," he said.

But as a teenager, Ferguson, who attended a school of art and design, also had other ambitions. He ordered business cards stating that he was creating jewelry, doing screen printing, creating logos and was a rapper. One of his friends told him that no one would take him seriously when he was trying to do so many things at once, but Ferguson was not in agreement.

"I think at first that you just need to experiment and get into different things," he said. "The first five things you could do might not be what you will end up doing."

However, Ferguson himself acknowledges that he may have had too many ideas.

"Am I trying to become a gymnast?" he's remembered asking himself. "I had a phase of that."

Now that Ferguson has been so successful as a rapper, he has been able to revisit his various pbadions, he said. He has his own fashion company, Traplord, and has also worked with brands like Adidas, where he owned a line of shoes; and Tiffany & Co., for which he was ambbadador of the brand. On June 14, he began a collaboration with the bike manufacturer Redline – another of his pbadions, as evidenced by the video of his hit song "Plain Jane". It will be available on the Redline website and on NTWRK.

"It's part of me doing different things," he said. "Now, I have the platform to do everything I want to do and what I dreamed of doing."
