The Director General of the Trust for Social Security and National Insurance (SSNIT) Tuesday
called on workers to be wary of deceptive retirement plans that will worsen
their difficult situation at the pension.

He said that the SSNIT had already built a solid

alternative to investing in treasury bills and there were no myths surrounding
calculation of pension benefits and that pensions were a direct reflection of
wages on which contributors were paid.

"With the SSNIT Pension Scheme, which
you put in what you get.

"I will propose that for the improvement
pensions, the conversation should stop focusing on pensions perceived as weak
payment to pay the salary levels on which contributions are paid. Yes
wages improve, so pensions will automatically improve. "

The Director General said that about 78%
pensioners received a monthly pension equal to or less than 1,000 GHC, or approximately
percent of active members contributing at least 1,800 GHC, 25%
active contributors and retirees contributing 400 GHC or less
about.

He added that 50% of active members
and retirees contributed 1,000 GHC and 600 GHC or less respectively, with 4
% of active members and 1% of pensioners contributing and winning
GHC 5,000 or more.

on an aggressive public education disk impregnated with technology to get to the
popular, to increase its visibility and to create easy access for its customers.

SSNIT, stated that three factors were relevant to the calculation of the
benefits including; the age of retirement, the best three years of basic contribution
salary and number of months of contributions.

He said the formula for calculating
pensions are stipulated by law and, as such, no SSNIT staff member could change this.

imperative to bring the SSNIT hierarchy to resolve relevant issues
