Alex Afenyo-Markin, a member of parliament from Effutu's constituency, known for his unyielding defense of government policy, acknowledged that the much-criticized project of a village and dam is overdue and requires appropriate adjustments.
Faced with compelling reports in the media, which described the true state of the much vaunted election promise, the deputy, decried by the reality on the ground, conceded: "We can not pretend to the problem."
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana's largest opposition party, continues to claim that the project was only a winning strategy for the elections. Critics accused the government of public deception and called the dams "pirogues".
The Ghanaian public is concerned about the quality of work on the dam sites and reports payments to contractors for dubious work. The Ghanaian public is torn between optimism and doubt about the general elections next year.
