Morrisons and Amazon plan to expand their same day grocery delivery service to Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield and Portsmouth.

Morrisons has agreed to supply Amazon with grocery items in 2016 and the service now includes delivery to certain customers in the meantime.

Until now, customers in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and parts of London can use the service the same day.

Other cities will be added in the "coming years," announced the two companies.

The supermarket provides products for the Amazon Prime Now and Amazon Pantry services.

Amazon Pantry was launched in the UK in 2015, causing increased competition with the big four supermarkets, but not offering fresh produce.

Morrisons supplies Amazon with fresh, frozen and non-perishable products.

Ocado has entered into a 25-year agreement with Morrisons to manage the supermarket's online delivery service.
