The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the arrest of its national president, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, would not stop their unwavering determination to regain power in 2020.
He baderted that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was allowing itself to be used as a political tool to violate the fundamental rights of Ghanaians.
In a statement to set the record straight at the time of Mr. Ampofo's detention on Tuesday, the party claimed that he wished to revive the country of the shackles of the Akufo-Addo administration.
"The party is ready and ready for victory in the 2020 elections and nothing will ever stop our march forward to save the people of Ghana from the inept and inept leadership of Nana-Akufo-Addo."
"We call on the CID police not to let themselves be used to politics with the rights and lives of the citizens of Ghana. Ghanaians are worried about the general state of insecurity in the country and fear that this apparent breach of public order by the police is no longer their duty to defend and protect all Ghanaians, "the statement added.
In the meantime, the NDC has urged its members to exercise restraint and to continue their activities in accordance with the law.
"The NDC, as the largest opposition party, wants to badure its supporters that it remains law-abiding and that President Ofosu-Ampofo and party leaders can still rely on strong intimidated or repressed. We never allow ourselves to be intimidated or repressed. We would never give up any of our rights guaranteed by the 1992 Constitution, which we kindly created. We will resist the domination of the oppressors in Ghana. "
