South Korea, China and Japan are reportedly developing measures to encourage the production of more environmentally friendly vehicles, such as electric cars.
According to the Seoul-based news agency Yonhap News Agency, South Korea and China will penalize local companies that do not manufacture as many electric vehicles as their respective governments recommend.
The South Korean government is in talks with local automakers to determine the penalty to be imposed, while China should impose fines on companies that do not meet the requirements.
Japan recommends that local automakers increase their average fuel efficiency by 32 percent and encourage them to produce more electric vehicles.
