The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will begin the restricted voter registration exercise from Monday 17 June to Sunday 7 July this year.
The new date follows the rejection of a motion for interlocutory injunction aimed at preventing the commission from undertaking the planned exercise.
The new dates appeared in a statement signed by EC President Jean Mensa.
Context
Earlier in May of this year, the commission announced that from June 7 to Thursday, June 27, would be the time to begin its restricted registration exercise.

However, the commission was forced to suspend her as a result of an injunction application filed in the Supreme Court in order to prevent the commission from continuing the exercise.
Umar Ayuba, a Ghanaian based in Daboya in the Savannah region, wanted the Supreme Court to stop the registration process pending the final decision of his lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the exercise.
But in its ruling on Tuesday, a seven-member panel dismissed the interlocutory motion and deferred the motives until the case on the merits was settled.
The decision gave the EC the go ahead to go ahead and carry out the limited voter registration exercise.
CE instructions
The statement added that the exercise of registration would take place in all the district offices of the commission and the designated areas or electoral centers across the country.
He indicated that the exercise would begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm. every day, weekends included.
Potential applicants are therefore invited to visit a registration center with one of the following documents to prove eligibility: a valid driver's license, a Ghanaian pbadport, a national identity card (ID), an old non-biometric identity card (This is for candidates who registered before the 2012 voter registration exercise), "the statement said.
In addition, he asked applicants who did not possess any of the above documents to go to the registration centers with two registered voters to act as guarantors for registration purposes.
About the exercise
The purpose of the exercise is to provide Ghanaians who are 18 years of age since the last registration exercise and those who, for some reason, have never had the chance to do so, the opportunity to register.
It is also part of the EC's preparations for holding the 2019 district and referendum elections for the election of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District (MMDCE) Heads of Government scheduled for Tuesday, December 10th. 2019.
