An armed thief suspected of being lynched for firing on a MoMo vendor

Awal Mohammed, a 28-year-old Malian, was lynched for shooting a mobile money salesman in Tema, Community 4.

Awal reportedly shot the mobile money vendor in the leg during a robbery attempt, but luck escaped him when he was captured by members of the community and was later lynched .

According to Tema Regional Police Public Affairs Officer Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the police received a call around 4 pm on Wednesday that two young men on a motorcycle brandishing a gun had fired at a bank note seller.

He added that the victim had sounded the alarm, which had led to the arrest of Awal, who was in possession of the firearm.

He said that when the policeman arrived at the scene, the suspect was unconscious and was transported to the police hospital but was declared dead upon his arrival.

He added that the mobile money salesman had also been taken to the hospital and was responding to the treatment.

According to Dgo Benefo Darkwah, a Glock gun with six rounds of ammo, a protective mask as well as a motorcycle bearing the registration number M-19-GR 1017 were recovered at the scene.
