I am an English teacher and a writer. I would not be surprised to love books – and to have a ton of them. I've always wanted my daughter Ellie to also have a huge library at home. Well, she's only a year old, but she already has a lot more books than me.

I love reading to Ellie, but when I started hearing from friends of Usborne Books, I was rather skeptical. The books are books. What makes them more special than the ones we already had at home? I decided to buy some books when one of my friends organized a Usborne book party online to find out.

When Ellie had her first book on Usborne "Garden Sounds", she was instantly obsessed.

She was about nine months old at the time and, although she liked books in general, her attention was may be a page. With "Garden Sounds", she stayed there hypnotized while I read her the whole book. She would even play with the book all by herself, and it was one of the first books she read for herself. The book includes realistic sounds, fingerprints and cutouts. Ellie is 1 years old now and it's still one of her favorites among our growing collection of Usborne books.

What makes Usborne so unique

It is important for children to read every day, but it is not always easy to get them to sit down and do it. A study by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that among the many benefits to reading, reading contributes to brain development in young children.

With more than 2,000 titles (including more than 75 in Spanish), Usborne does amazing work for all tastes and ages. From newborns to teens and even adults, this company uses many techniques to make interactive, fun and interesting books.

For newborns, there is a series of high contrast flyer books for the abdominals. I did not know about Usborne when Ellie was still playing belly, but I would have liked to do it because I would have definitely had those books to keep her entertained and happy. Older babies would like what the brand calls "Touchy-Feely" and "Slide and See", books that do not contain a lot of text, but rather have beautiful textures and slides to explore and play. Ellie's favorite slide book is "The very first slide and baby farm".

There are plenty of interactive books for toddlers too, like "All Better", which contains reusable bandages for kids, and "Busy Car Book", which contains a small car that can be moved. around the pages as you read to entertain the kids. This is part of what the series "busy books". Even though she's only a year old, Ellie already likes to play with bandages and catches the toy off the track while I read to her.

As the children grow up, Usborne also offers fiction and documentary books with beautiful illustrations and cutouts with longer text to help readers at the beginning of the transition to the chapters. He also offers a series of documentary books entitled "Shine A Light" in which readers use a flashlight to reveal hidden images. Reading in the dark with a flashlight is a novelty for children, which could encourage them to read.

In addition to the wide variety of types of books, Usborne also offers books in a wide variety of sizes. The book "The very first baby stroller" from Ellie only has a few square centimeters and attaches to her stroller or her car seat. At the other end of the spectrum, she also has "Real Size", which presents images of scaled animals in order to compare the size of her mouth to that of a lion, for example.

As a teacher, I am very sad to note that the majority of high school students do not like to read. When I ask my students why, their answer is often that they are forced to read books that do not interest them when they reach the intermediate level.

Usborne is doing everything in its power to help young readers continue to enjoy reading as they grow up, and this gives parents the tools they need to engage their children in reading. . Each book is designed to entertain, educate and inspire your child. According to Usborne, "More than 30 years ago, Peter Usborne launched a new generation of books that prove that it is possible to create books that rival the vast media that attracts children today."

Disadvantages of Usborne

Usborne books are sold at retailers such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble, but the company also sells books through independent consultants. Buying from an independent consultant can be a truly rewarding experience because it can recommend books based on your child's age and interests. They will help you throughout the purchase process.

A disadvantage to consider is that shipments can be slow, and at a flat rate of $ 6, it's a little steep if you only buy one book.

The bottom line

Whether your child already likes to read or you have to fight, you can not lose trying Usborne books. Independent consultants can help you choose the ideal book if you do not know where to start, or you can choose from the wide variety and ensure that the books you choose will be useful. One day in your child's life.

Fortunately, we live in a world where there are thousands of books to choose from, and as JK Rowling once said, "If you do not like reading, you have not found the right book . "

If you want to try other options, the Indestructible books are perfect for young babies who prefer to chew and tear books, and Dr. Seuss' books are clbadics that the younger ones often love. If your child is older and is looking for chapters, I would advise you to go to your local library so that he can browse and find what he likes.

I really did not understand the hype before trying Usborne Books. Today, many of my friends and family are also hooked on them. Even if your kids do not end up loving them (or eating them) as much as Ellie, adding another book to your child's library will never hurt.

Advantages: Fun and interactive, encourages reading at any age, independent consultants can help you choose books at reasonable prices.

The inconvenients: Shipping can be slow and expensive if you buy from a consultant
