Kwesimintsim NPP rejects Kojo Mensah as a member of the NPP

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power in the Kwesimintsim of the Western Region rejected Kojo Mensah who had attempted suicide in Parliament as a member of the party.

Kojo Mensah, 35, was arrested on Thursday, June 14, 2019 by Ghanaian police for attempting to commit suicide in the House of Parliament for "economic hardship".

Kojo Mensah was able to enter the public gallery as a guest by carrying a rope that he tied around a chair and threatening to jump from the first floor to his death.

It took plainclothes police intervention to apprehend and save the situation while she was sitting.

Upon his arrest, the man was heard shouting and shouting, "I want to speak to His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo".

He also shouted, "I want to talk to my MP, the Honorable Joseph Mensah".

He continued, "I want to kill myself, I want to kill myself".

Kojo Mensah who, according to him, comes from Kwesimintsim constituency was in Parliament to search for the deputy of the region.

Kate Addo, acting director of public affairs in parliament, told reporters that Kojo Mensah had gone to Nigeria and that he had unfortunately been attacked by armed robbers. He therefore went to Parliament to seek the hon. Joseph Mensah (MP) for his financial support.

Kate Addo said that the MP was not in Parliament that day.

Superintendent Freeman Tetteh, commander of the parliamentary protection unit, informed the media that the case had been referred to the police station of the ministry for investigation.

However, addressing the western media, Mr. Appiah Kubi, the NPP's constituency secretary for Kwesimintsim, said that Kojo Mensah, who had attempted suicide, was not a member of the NPP.

He added that Kojo Mensah is not even part of the constituency.

He said that making their MP unpopular was planned.

"I want to make it clear that Kojo Mensah is not a member of the NPP, his name does not appear in our register, it's not even this constituency, we do not know him anywhere in the constituency. He was in Parliament to tarnish the image of our MP, it was planned, but we sent a delegation to come to Accra to properly investigate him because he is not a member of the NPP.

Collins Owusu Amankwaa, MP of Manhyia North and Vice Chairman of the Defense and Interior Committee, described the situation as very unfortunate and requested the opening of an investigation.

He suspects that it was a well thought out plan "just to tarnish the image of Parliament".

"We need to know what has happened and say that what happened is very unfortunate. What he has demonstrated must not be entertained. We must look into this matter, "he said.

According to the rules of Parliament, no one is allowed to wear a party accessory to the chamber where the affairs of the government and the deputies are.
