The largest Picbado exhibition ever held in China begins Saturday with more than 100 works, many of which date back to the artist's early days.

The exhibition "The birth of a genius" brings together the best of the Picbado Museum in Paris, told AFP Laurent Le Bon, president of the museum.

The works presented include paintings, sculptures and drawings. They are accompanied by pictures of young Pablo in Barcelona and Paris.

The first Picbado exhibition in China took place in 1983 and was to coincide with a visit to Beijing by French President François Mitterrand. Only 33 works of art have been exhibited.

This year's exhibition, which runs until September 1 at the UCCA Contemporary Art Center in Beijing, focuses on the artist's first 30 years.

"We have tried to show the great masterpieces such as the blue self-portrait, which almost never leave the museum, and display them alongside a more multidisciplinary Picbado," he said. Good.

The "blue period" of the Spanish artist from 1901 to 1904, focused in particular on the poor and the marginalized, such as prostitutes and drunkards, occupies an important place in the selected works, added the commissioner of the Exhibition, Emilia Philippot.

"These are very political topics," she said.

Carrying all the works in China has brought its own challenges.

The insurers' work, valued at more than 800 million euros ($ 900 million), insisted that the parts travel on seven separate aircraft, the organizers said.
