Chelsea's decision to appoint Frank Lampard as the new director would have been approved by new sporting director Petr Cech.

The legendary Czech goalkeeper announced earlier this year that he was retiring at the end of the season. His last appearance for Arsenal was to result in the final defeat of the Europa League against Chelsea.

But Cech will not miss work for a long time, the 37-year-old has been offered the new role of sports director of Stamford Bridge.

Although Cech has not officially started its work, one of the first objectives of his program will be to find a new director to replace Maurizio Sarri, who is about to take over from Juventus.

And according to The Sun, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia, general manager, have already spoken to Cech about who should take the reins of Sarri's departure.

VIPs such as Javi Gracia and Nuno Espirito Santo have been badociated with the post, but Cech has lobbied for Lampard to be named to the management despite his lack of experience.

He impressed in his first season as head of Derby County, narrowly missing promotion to the Premier League after losing the Aston Villa Dam final.

Lampard formed a young, hard-working team that featured two Chelsea fans – Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount – and the next manager will have to rely on the club's youth prospects to face a two-window ban.

Jody Morris, a former youth coach at Chelsea, Lampard's badistant at Derby, will follow him to Stamford Bridge, while the former Blues midfielder also spoke to Didier Drogba about his intention to join his team behind the scenes.
