Tottenham decided that Bruno Fernandes of Sporting CP would not participate in the battle, while one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer continues to turn.
Fernandes is considered by almost all the top clubs in Europe after a great season in Portugal, where he managed to score 32 goals and 18 badists.
Manchester United has recently been announced as the signing favorite of the 24-year-old and the Daily Mail has now reported that the Red Devils have been given new impetus in their quest.
The report says that the Spurs are no longer interested in bringing Fernandes to North London, club sources just insisting that they have "no interest in signing it" .
It is unclear whether the Spurs are being turned off by the 50 million pounds that Sporting has on Fernandes' head, but it seems that the club – which has been particularly reserved on the transfer market – is out of the race.
The other Premier League giants, Manchester City and Liverpool, have also pulled out, which will appeal to Manchester United, who seems to be in an even stronger position than before.
The Mail says that United is primarily interested in acquiring young British talent, which explains the recent purchase of Daniel James and the links with Sean Longstaff, but could nevertheless persuade them to switch to Fernandes.
The Red Devils also have close ties to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, although the two players are not cheap, their respective clubs remaining strong.
