Accra, June 15, GNA – The Ministry of Health has
revealed that he had reviewed and submitted the National Blood Service Bill to
Government for consideration and final approval by Parliament.
Ms. Tina Mensah, Deputy Minister of
Health, which made this known, said the bill, once pbaded, would improve
the regulatory regime governing the provision of blood transfusion services through the
country.
The minister was speaking at an event
organized by the National Blood Service to commemorate World Blood Day 2019
Donor Day in Accra.
The day is reserved to appreciate
voluntary and unpaid blood donors for their life-saving blood donation.
It is also raising awareness of the need
for regular blood donations to ensure access to affordable and timely supplies
safe and quality blood and blood products in patients suffering from
conditions of life in danger.
Ms. Mensah said that it would effectively strengthen
the blood service to coordinate and supervise all blood services in accordance
with the law.
She urged the National Blood Service not to

friends of patients requiring a blood transfusion.
Dr. Ansah noted that in 2018, Ghana
blood requirement estimated at 280,000 units, but whole blood
collected nationwide was just over 169,000 units.
Of this total, approximately 37% were
collected by the three zonal blood centers of the National Blood Service at
Accra, Kumasi and Tamale.
She said on the demand side, geographic and
financial access to adequate and safe blood and blood products remained
critical for many people and communities.
