The research badistants of the 275 members of the Ghanaian parliament have scheduled a demonstration in the enclave of the legislature on their 11-month salary arrears.
In a notice of demonstration to the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, the research badistants said: "We humbly refer to the above subject and we humbly wish to inform you of a planned event scheduled for June 20 in front of the parliament, in the parliament building and in the vicinity of the parliament, by research badistants to honorable parliamentarians ".
The opinion, signed jointly by MM. Rauf Adam, Issifu Seidu Kudus, Amenyo K. Akoto, Mark Agyapong and Ernest Akrofi Obeng, said: "Very respectfully, this action has become necessary because we have exploited every diplomatic avenue of our country. disposition to get our monthly salaries, but all attempts have been in vain. "
The research badistants stated: "Many of us have not received a salary for nearly a year (eleven months) and this situation is rather disturbing and appalling given the fact that many of us are really working hard to help our honorable members on their mandate as parliamentarians to improve parliamentary democracy.
"Again, we are not entitled to any compensation, emoluments or other perquisites as research badistants. We are entitled only to our monthly salaries and we have to travel to work without transportation allowance compared to other staff members working in Parliament. We only rely on our wages for all our basic needs, and this very issue of non-payment of salaries of research badistants really paralyzes us.
"Without prejudice to any authority whatsoever in Parliament, we do not intend to interfere with the important work that Parliament can carry out, because the demonstration will be peaceful in order to make our voices heard, because we can not continue to suffer in silence. "
