Targeted customers across the country are experiencing order blocking due to the failure of in-store payment systems.

The retail giant confirmed via Twitter on Saturday that he was aware of "a system problem in the store" and that he was working "as quickly as possible to solve this problem".

The date when the system went down for the first time and the exact number of stores involved were not yet clear.

In a statement to CNBC, Target acknowledged that customers "are currently unable to make purchases at Target stores".

"Our teams are solving the problems and we apologize for this inconvenience," said a spokesman.

Customers used social media to share their in-store experiences while waiting for payment systems to become operational again.
