The disastrous marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles and his disordered split was a headache for everyone, including Queen Elizabeth II.

During her conversation with journalist Martin Bashir, Princess Diana spoke of Charles's infidelity, raised his own and asked if her husband was fit to become king.
In his book The Duchess: the unpublished story, biographer Penny Junor said that it was the last straw for Her Majesty and that she was tired of it.
"The queen has finally lost patience," Junor wrote. "This public campaign has not only harmed the monarchy, it has been damaging to young princes [William and Harry]. "
What Queen Elizabeth ordered Diana and Charles to do
After Diana's explosive interview and the negative headlines that followed, the royal family was reduced to a soap opera and the queen could no longer let the public tragedy continue.
His Majesty decided that it was best that his son and the princess put an end to their marriage. She sent them separate letters urging them to get a divorce.
After reviewing the current situation, the Queen wrote to the Prince and Princess earlier this week and told them of her point of view, supported by the Duke of Edinburgh, that an early divorce is desirable ", says a statement from the palace.
Charles and Diana agreed and their divorce was finalized in 1996. On August 31, 1997, the Princess died as a result of a car accident in Paris.
