Senegal coach Aliou Cissé confirmed that his Liverpool striker, Sadio Mane, was suspended for his opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The 27-year-old will miss the Group C match against Tanzania on 23 June in Cairo after winning two yellow cards in the Senegal Nations Cup qualifiers.
"His absence should in no way bother us," said coach Cisse to the Senegalese media just before leaving their training camp in Alicante, Spain, to travel to Egypt.
"Certainly, the presence of Sadio is beneficial but without him we remain strong.
"The CAF [Confederation of African Football] decided, so we will not linger, "added Cissé.
