A young driver gave his grandparents the surprise of their life when she took them to their vacation in Palma.

Laura Gibson, 23, from Derby, is one of TUI Airways' youngest drivers.

The proud grandparents Pat, 79, and Ray, 83, did not know when they flew to the East Midlands airport that it was their granddaughter who would fly them.

The pictures show Pat shocked and delighted as she climbed into the plane to see the radiant face of her little girl.

Laura's grandparents said they could not believe it when they saw Laura in uniform.

Pat said, "We are incredibly proud of Laura's career as a driver. We simply think that it is absolutely incredible.

Laura added, "My grandmother did not even recognize me at first. She was very polite when she said hello, then realized that it was me and I did a big hug!

"It was such a special moment."

Laura, who started flying at age 18, contacted the airline's lineup team to agree that she could operate the special flight to Palma.

Originally, Laura's parents had the idea to surprise.

Laura said her grandparents lived and breathed pride in their grandparents since she started flying.

The former airline she was working for did not have the mobility facilities that Pat and Ray needed, so when she joined TUI in November, she started planning their surprise.

From the moment she had her first flying lesson in a flight simulator for her 18th birthday, Laura dreamed of being a pilot.

As one of the youngest of TUI Airways' 970 pilots, she serves destinations all over the world and is only a few miles away from her promotion to the position of First Officer.
