The National Identification Authority (NIA) responded to a report on social media that appears to suggest that a Togolese national has "fraudulently" acquired the Ghana Card.

"Some comments on the identity card images suggest that this person is a Togolese and therefore can not claim a Ghanaian card as a Ghanaian citizen."

"The NIA wishes to record the following facts for the general public: the Ghana map bearing the name of Wilfried Amenovideto is authentic; In support of his Ghana card application, Mr. W. Amenovideto presented a birth certificate issued by the register of births and deaths on January 26, 2018 in Aflao, the nationality of both parents being indicated on the birth certificate as Ghanaian, "statement noted.

He added that "a person who is a citizen of Ghana and a citizen of another country has the right to apply for and obtain the Ghana card; a citizen of another country can become a Ghanaian citizen afterwards
according to the required process of naturalization or registration required by law. "

In addition, he stated: "Many foreigners living in Ghana have obtained Ghanaian citizenship, either through the Ministry of the Interior, registration or naturalization; and the NIA is currently conducting an investigation to determine whether one or more persons have violated any applicable law when issuing a Ghanaian card to Wilfried Amenovideto.

"The NIA wishes to badure the general public that it takes very seriously any concerns or allegations regarding the fraudulent acquisition of the Ghana Card intended for citizens by persons who are not Ghanaians. As a result, the NIA is currently badisting the Ghanaian police to investigate several of these cases. "

Criminal proceedings are not limited in time; therefore, anyone found guilty of violating a relevant legal provision will be duly prosecuted, he said.
