The Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs of the US State Department visited Ghana from June 13-14.
During his visit, Carl Risch met with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss issues of common interest.
He also met with members of the American Mission's diplomatic community, consular staff and immigration.
This concludes a two-country trip that began on June 10, 2019. Prior to Ghana, Assistant Secretary Risch traveled to Kenya to meet US Embbady staff and observe consular operations in Nairobi. .
In both cities, he underscored the deep and sustained commitment to the protection of US citizens abroad and the facilitation of legitimate travel and immigration to the United States.
Carl C. Risch was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs on August 11, 2017.
He most recently served as Acting Chief of Staff of US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Mr. Risch was previously director of the USCIS office at the US Embbady in Seoul, South Korea.
He has also worked as an immigration officer for the USCIS at the US Embbady in Manila, Philippines. He began his career at USCIS as an immigration officer at the Office of Administrative Appeals.
Mr. Risch is a former public servant in the State Department's diplomatic service, where he served as a consular officer at the United States Consulate General in Amsterdam.
He had a highly regarded legal career in Pennsylvania in addition to his government service. Mr. Risch holds a BA from the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and a JD from the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
