Ghanaian actor John Dumelo defended Nigerians in Ghana, saying it was "unfair" for Ghanaians to badociate Nigerians with every kidnapping in Ghana.

Nigerian nationals are linked to five major kidnapping cases in the country since last August.

Mr. Samuel-Udoetuk Willis, a Nigerian currently in custody, is the main suspect in the abduction of three girls in Takoradi, in the western region. A second Nigerian suspect, John Oji, is also being tried for the same crime.

Three Nigerians and five Ghanaians also participated in the kidnapping of two Canadians rescued last week in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.

Three Nigerians are also fleeing as part of the kidnapping of a Lebanese diplomat, Nabil Makram Basbous, consular general and head of the mission from Estonia to Ghana, to Labone in April this year .

Some Nigerians were also arrested in Kasoa, in the central region, in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a two-year-old Ghanaian boy in this region also in April.

In addition, some Nigerian nationals allegedly were behind the kidnapping of an Indian businessman in Kumasi in April this year.

On Sunday, June 16, 2019, another Nigerian suspect was arrested in Mamobi, Accra, for attempting to kidnap a four-year-old boy from Ghana.

Some Ghanaians from different social media platforms have expressed anger at the current trend of kidnappings involving Nigerian suspects.

Mr. Dumelo, in a tweet, however, said that it was unfair to tie any nationality to this phenomenon.

According to Mr Dumelo, kidnapping is a heinous act and should not be linked to certain nationals.
