Former President Kufour and other people receive an honorary doctorate

Accra, June 16, GNA – The Board of Governors
of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) awarded an honorary doctorate
degree on three distinguished personalities for their contributions to
the University at its 13th congregation in Accra.

These distinguished personalities are of old
President John Agyekum Kufour, President Julius Maada Bio of the Republic of
Sierra Leone and Captain Aaron Obeng Turkson, former rector of the RMU.

The quote of former President J.A Kufour
reads: "Your excellence, this award also rewards your
commitment and support to the goals of this institution that has supported the
regionalization of the University, making it a center of excellence in maritime transport
education and training on the African continent and beyond ".

We also read "Your Excellency, the
Academic Council of the RMU in deciding this award noted that throughout
your life, you have made several contributions to humanity and to the Council
specifically recognized the bold initiative of your government to raise
the then Regional Maritime Academy as a University on October 25,
2007.

taken note of your commitment to democracy, the rule of law, social justice and
respect for human rights, among others. "
