Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, a discredited blood test development company, reportedly married recently at a secret ceremony.

Sources told Nick Bilton, a Vanity Fair reporter, that Holmes had married his boyfriend, the heir to a 27-year-old hotel named Billy Evans. Bilton said that none of Theranos' employees had been invited to the ceremony, even though she was "always friendly" with some of her former colleagues.

The news of the secret marriage comes months after Bilton announced that Holmes, 35, had been engaged and lived in San Francisco. It was later revealed that Holmes' fiance was Evans, heir to a chain of hotels in California. The couple would have met at a party in 2017 and would have been seen at Burning Man in August 2018, a few days before the complete closing of Theranos.

The couple kept low profile and is rarely seen in public. The couple lived in a $ 5,000 apartment per month near Lombard Street in San Francisco, but they recently moved. Holmes would apparently carry Evan's signet ring of her alma mater, MIT, on a string around her neck.

After Page Six announced last week that Holmes had secretly married, Bilton confirmed the news with his sources, the Vanity Fair reporter said in an episode of his podcast "Inside the Hive".

Bilton has issued several theories about the reasons for their marriage, including that Holmes must have access to Evans' funds to pay his legal bills. Holmes faces nearly a dozen federal fraud charges related to his experience with Theranos, a biotechnology startup previously valued at $ 9 billion by investors.

Holmes and his former boyfriend – Theranos' president Sunny Balwani – face up to 20 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. The next hearing will be held on July 1 st. the trial could begin as early as July 8th.

A Holmes representative did not immediately return a request for comment.
