The wife of Vinnie Jones, the retired British footballer turned Hollywood actor, has died at home in Los Angeles after a long illness.

Jones was married to Tanya, 53, for 25 years. She was at her bedside when she pbaded away on Saturday, said her manager.

Jones 'management said in a statement: "Tanya Jones, Vinnie Jones' wife, died of a lengthy illness at 8:46 am local time in Los Angeles.

"Tanya moved peacefully to the Jones family's house surrounded by Vinnie, their daughter and other family members.

"Vinnie and her family are asking for privacy while they are going through an understandable mourning period during this devastating time."

Tanya had a daughter, Kaley, from her former husband and a son, Aaron, with Vinnie.

In 2013, Jones, a former midfielder known for his membership in the Crazy Gang at Wimbledon, recounted how the couple had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

Tanya suffered an emergency heart transplant at the age of 21 after Kaley was born and also reportedly suffered from cancer of the cervix of the uterus.

In an interview two years ago, Jones described Tanya as "the most incredible person".

"I think we are the ideal partner and I was lucky enough to find him," he said.

After his retirement from football, Jones capitalized on his tough image, often in Hollywood movies as violent and thuggish criminals.

His film career began with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Cannons, as well as roles in Snatch, Gone in 60 Seconds and Mean Machine. He played Juggernaut in the 2006 X-Men: The Last Stand movie.
