The majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, described the unfounded opposition to the construction of a new House of Parliament.

He said the country has more pressing problems and priorities to be met, but that everything can not be done before the construction of the new room.

According to him, the argument that the new room is not a priority is unfounded.

Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu defended the need for the new room during a rare appearance on GH Today from GHOne TV.

"As a country, we have not come out of the wood despite the quality … amount of various improvements that we add to the life and standard of living of our people. We are not here yet.

We are not out of the woods, but tell me, we know that the basic needs of a human being, initially, are food, clothing and shelter. Whenever we were able to do that before we started building our stadiums or our national theater? Food, clothing and housing, were we able [provide it completely]?, " he said.

He added that the housing deficit was close to two million and yet they were building roads.

"The housing deficit is around two million and yet we are building roads. Between roads and housing, priority should be given to housing. We build roads, schools and health facilities. They must all ensure the quality of life – the standard of living of our people, he said.

He added that even America has its own problems as a country.

"Even the United States of America, can we say that every citizen of the United States has three fair meals, and yet they have all these things that we value so much.

Let no one tell me that we may not be able to provide clothes for everyone, not before we can provide adequate housing for everyone, these other things are luxury. " he noted.
