Luck escaped an alleged 23-year-old armed robber who was shot dead by a civilian on Atebubu-Kwame Danso Road in Atebubu-Amantin Township, in the Bono-East area on Tuesday night.

The deceased, suspected of being a Fulani, was one of six suspected armed robbers who had attacked and stole the occupants of four vehicles that were traveling on the road that night.

The rest of his colleagues fled into the bush when they realized that their colleague had been killed.

Vehicles whose registration numbers have not yet been identified are two goods transport trucks and two SsangYong minibuses shuttling between Kumasi (Ashanti region) and Kajaji (Bono region) where they were attacked and stolen.

Police response

Bono Regional Police's Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Augustine Kinsley Oppong, also responsible for the Bono East and Ahafo areas, told the Mirror that the civilian had shot at the alleged chest .

According to him, the Atebubu police received a message saying that armed robbers were stealing commuters on the Atebubu-Kwame Danso highway, so a team of police patrols was dispatched to the scene.

Chief Inspector Oppong said that a victim had informed the police that one of the armed robbers who was wearing a red T-shirt over gray trousers was holding a thick stick and he ordered to lie down on the floor.

He added that when the police conducted a search of the crime scene, she saw an adult, presumably a little Fulani, aged about 23, wearing a red t-shirt over trousers. of gray color lying in a pool of blood, lying flat.

Chief Inspector Oppong said that a body examination had revealed pellet wounds on the chest, adding that items such as a phone and GH ¢ 72 money had been found on him.

He explained that a pair of sandals, a stick, a flashlight, two empty AA cartridges that would have been used by the thief were recovered.

According to Chief Inspector Oppong, members of the patrol team also said they heard two shots fired around the area. On the scene, some of the victims stated that the thief had died when a pbadenger on board one of the affected cargo trucks had shot him.

He said that the body had since been sent to the mortuary of St Mathias Hospital in Yeji to be preserved and autopsied.
