President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Saturday to head the Ghanaian delegation to attend the 12th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, to be held in Niamey, Niger.

The summit will launch the operational phase of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) after its maturity on May 30, 2019, when the 22nd Member State will have deposited its instrument of ratification at the headquarters of the AU Commission. in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ghana is expected to be announced as the host country of the AfCFTA Secretariat, after beating competition from countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Kenya, Senegal and Madagascar.

President Akufo-Addo will leave Niger after the summit on Monday, July 8, 2018, to begin a three-day official visit to France, at the invitation of French leader Emmanuel Macron.

In addition to holding bilateral talks aimed at deepening the ties of cooperation and friendship between Ghana and France, the two President 's countries have met with members of the Ghanaian community; deliver a speech at the France-Ghana Business Forum; visit the port of Marseille; and organize meetings with French multinationals such as Total and Société Générale.

President Akufo-Addo would leave France on Thursday 11 July to take a week's holiday as part of his annual leave.

He was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen; Yofi Grant, General Manager of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center; and officials from the Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on July 18, 2019. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia would act in his place.
