Rwandan President Paul Kagame expressed his support and congratulated Ghana as the country chosen to host the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Ghana was chosen Saturday, July 6, 2019 as host country of the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
A review panel stated that the West African country had obtained the right based on the formula of regional balance.
Ghana beat six other countries that had submitted their offers to host the secretariat. These were: Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar and Senegal.
In a Facebook post published on MyNewsGh.com on Sunday, President Paul Kagame wrote: "I agree with the Executive Council's proposal to designate Ghana as our choice to host the secretariat of the United Nations. ; AfCFTA. I congratulate them too. Our task now is to finalize the remaining negotiations and operational instruments as soon as possible. "
He also congratulated the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, for having played a decisive role in achieving this peak of strengthening trade in Africa.
The main mandate of the secretariat will be the implementation of the agreement, which has been ratified by 25 countries, according to the African Union.
The announcement of Ghana as the host country of the secretariat took place when the African Union launched the operational phase of the CAFTA at an extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and government in Niamey, Niger.
