The pillars of automotive paradise were shaken late June by an ephemeral rumor that the mighty Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution could come back. If – and it's a big one if at this point – it should happen, the Lancer should also come back. Yes, technically, the Lancer still exists in Chinese markets, but it runs on the old platform and, frankly, there is no way for Mitsubishi to revive an international Bone-based Lancer that it already has. removed. Nevertheless, as Nikita Chuiko from Kolesa.ru points out, this would probably be the starting point for creating a new launcher.
This is exactly what this rendering seeks to envision. While the historic nameplate now exists as the Grand Lancer, Chuiko has chosen to delve into the digital world with a new interpretation on this platform. In this case, the Lancer is still a sedan – no crossover here like the Eclipse Cross – although it has a fastback fastback style that could please its fans. The front clip adopts Mitsubishi's current design language with its chrome grille and slim headlights, with large sets of driving lights flanking a very square chin. A two-tone "floating roof" with a continuous rear light at the back is quite modern and rather tasty.
Ideally, this rendering in fan would result in new foundations borrowed from the Renault Megane. Recent rumors about a recovery of Evo suggest that if such a thing happened, Mitsubishi would strongly support its alliance with Nissan and Renault – especially the latter with its hot Mégane RS. A new-generation Lancer Evo would apparently use the Megane powertrain, built into the Alliance's CMF-C / D F4 chbadis. The current Mégane is up 295 horsepower (220 kilowatts), but the next version could have a hybrid hump generating 341 hp (254 kW). This could certainly make it an entertaining off-road Evo.
Unfortunately, for now, we only have rumors and interpretations to hold us back. Yet there is at least a faint glimmer of hope.
