Market gardening remains the economic pillar of the country – DCE

Miwirenfiriwuo (B / A), July 9, GNA – Mr.
Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, Director General of East Dormaa District (DCE),
called for growing cashews, coffee and cocoa (CCC) on a large scale
because they are very lucrative farm businesses.

He said because of their versatility
utility and high economic returns for farmers and the nation they
continue to be the foundation of the country's cash crop industry and
to ensure that agriculture remains the center of the national economy.

He said that this could be achieved if the districts
with favorable climatic conditions favor the cultivation of such crops.

Under the plantation for export and rural
Regional Development (PERD), he said, the district undertook
CCC's culture to stimulate local and national economies.

Mr. Agyemang was speaking in an interview
with the Ghana News Agency when he visited a coffee nursery in
Miwirenfiriwuo, an agricultural community in Dormaa East District in the Bono area.

It was part of his two-day inspection tour
to check the progress of the farms as part of the Plantation for Food and Jobs
(PfFJs), the PERD and the Ghana Agricultural Modernization Programs (MAG) in the
District.

He was accompanied by officials from
District Assembly and District Management of Agriculture.

The WFD stated that the plants were donated
free of charge by the Assembly with the technical support of Agriculture.
Direction and urged farmers and potential farmers to develop interest
arboreal agriculture, especially the "three Cs" to enrich themselves.

He finished the tour Friday with the
start of distribution of 500,000 cashew plants to approximately 2,000
registered farmers in the district.

Mr. Solomon Kwajo Gyan, a beneficiary farmer,
who received 3,000 and 1,000 cashew plants this year and last year
respectively, in addition to the 8,000 cocoa plants during this period, recommended
government and district badembly for "wonderful support for farmers".

He said through the program he has
cultivated 30 acres of cashew nuts and 18 acres of cocoa at Kofi Nyamekyekrom,
other farming community of the district and expressed optimism that by 2020
he would be harvesting.

Mr. Laud Nunoo Ntreh, District Officer
responsible for the coffee nurseries also told the GNA that the distribution of
510,000 coffee plants were underway for farmers in Dormaa-Akwamu, Wamfie,
Wamanafoo, Kyeremaasu, Kwaku-Nyamekrom, Akontanim, Supong and Miwirenfiriwuo,
coffee producing communities in the district.

He stated that 400 registered farmers would benefit
of seedling distribution according to their demand to extend tree cultivation
agriculture in the district.
