More than four hundred thousand (400,000) farmers, including one blind, are benefiting from the free distribution of a grafted cashew plantation exercise underway in Dormaa East District.
This is part of the government's national initiative on tree crops under the plantation for export and rural development, apart from citrus fruits, shea butter, oil palm, etc.
At a brief exercise launch ceremony Friday in Attakrom, Kofint, all villages in the district, the District Director General (DCE), the Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman said that in all, four hundred thousand eight hundred and fifty (400,850) seedlings would be distributed throughout the district to all registered farmers and interested institutions.
He explained; The Government's flagship agricultural programs have the strategic goal of creating jobs, diversifying the agricultural sector, stimulating the rural economy, reducing poverty and securing sustainable raw materials that, in the long run , help Ghana to go beyond aid. He urged institutional leaders and individuals with land to participate in the program in order to exploit its benefits.
District Director of Agriculture Kennedy Sam, who heads the distribution, said the government was talking about these flagship programs in agriculture.
He reiterated that to ensure the smooth running of the program, his team had received nineteen (19) additional extension agents, who would technically badist farmers and help them to use modern methods to ensure high quality production.
He called on farmers to seize this opportunity and make the most of their badistance.
Farmers who had the opportunity to receive their share at the launch expressed their gratitude to the government and asked for continued support.
