Ghanaians call Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah for the disappointing exit of the 2019 African Cup of Nations team.
Striker Caleb Ekuban became the villain as Tunisia beat Ghana 5-4 on penalties to qualify for the quarterfinal of the tournament.
Immediately after the match, a campaign for the removal of Kwesi Appiah was launched on various social media platforms, including Twitter, with the DropThatCoach hashtag dominating the trend questions on this space.
The online campaign seems to echo the idea of a majority of Ghanaians in the streets of Accra, who think that the game would not have been conducive to penalties on goal if Kwesi Appiah had been quick with his substitutions.
They accused the coach of allowing his vendetta against Asamoah Gyan to override the nation's interests. They noted that Gyan's arrival in the match gave the Stars the offensive momentum they lacked in the second half of the match.
Another factor that they believe contributed to Ghana's exit from the tournament is Kwesi Appiah's behavior and body language which they say does not inspire and motivate players.
"Twatically, Kwesi Appiah is not good. He was poor throughout the tournament. You look at the Tunisians and you see that it was not the players who won the match but the coach. He replaced a player and they scored, he replaced his goalkeeper and made one who saved a penalty so it clearly shows that Kwesi Appiah is not a good coach. He should be fired before he arrives in Ghana, "he said.
An overwhelming majority of respondents believe that Kwesi Appiah's successor should be a white coach. They said that a white coach would require respect from the players and would have authority over the team.
