A person with an active diagnosis of measles has been staying at a Bakersfield hotel during the July 4th holiday, health officials from Kern County said Tuesday.
The contagious person stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel, located at 3100 Camino Del Rio Street on July 4th and 5th. Health officials in Kern said anyone who visited the hotel during this two-day period would have been exposed to the disease.
The measles spreads in the air by coughing or sneezing and, according to the authorities, can stay in the air more than an hour.
Health officials at Kern have warned that anyone who is not immunized against measles by the MMR vaccine or the MMRV vaccine should continue to monitor the symptoms until July 26th.
Symptoms include high fever, coughing, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that begins in the person's hair and spreads to the rest of the body.
Officials warn that people who are infected with measles should not go to a doctor or other medical facility, but should contact their doctor first by phone.
