Wakaso was born in Tamale, in the Northern Region, he began his career at Ashanti Gold SC.
In 2008, he moved abroad and signed a five-year contract with FC Elche in Spain, but joined the club only two months later, due to his international obligations .
At the end of January 2011, after several unruly attacks and violations of internal codes, Wakaso was released by the Valencians.
Shortly after, he joined another team from the region and Segunda División, Team B Villarreal CF.
On February 27, 2011, Wakaso made his La Liga debut, replacing José Catalá in the final minutes of a 2-2 draw against Racing de Santander.
He played only six games in his first full season, and the yellow submarine was also relegated after 12 years.
Wakaso signed for RCD Espanyol on July 11, 2012, signing a four-year contract.[5] He played 23 league games with the Catalans in his first and only season.
Wakaso is currently active in the Spanish Liga against Alavés.
Wakaso made his debut with the Black Stars in 2012 and presented 54 goals, scoring 12 goals in the process.
