Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, sued Africawatch magazine for a defamatory article published in her magazine accusing her of spending more than $ 16 million for Purchase of a building in Oslo, Norway.

The foreign minister also sued Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of parliament for northern Tongu, for republishing the defamatory Facebook file, prompting various comments.

The plaintiff, represented by his lawyer, Gary Nimako, claims compensation of US $ 20 million for the loss of reputation of the defendants.

She also seeks a court order directing the defendants to withdraw the defamatory publication and to make an unqualified apology as important as the defamatory publication.

In the June issue of this publication, Africawatch magazine published this cover with the caption: "Ghanaian Exclusivity: The Story If the Sacred Plot of Oslo Was Stolen, The Ayokor Botchwey Lies Exposed , the defense of Nana Akufo-Addo flat ".

This publication, according to the plaintiff, intends to tarnish its hard-earned reputation, which is why it decided to sue the magazine Africawatch and its publisher for defamation.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a senior official in Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, the property was purchased for $ 12.1 million instead of $ 3.5 million. The Minister of Foreign Affairs subsequently indicated that this property had not yet been purchased and that discussions were still ongoing after the minority accused it of inflating figures from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. property.

However, in June 2019, Africawatch published an article on its cover page reporting the case, accusing the minister of conspiring to steal. The minister sued the African Watch Magazine and the editor who lives in the United States for defamation.

Part of the lawsuit stated: "The defendants' suggestion that I inflated the cost of the property without any correlative evidence to that effect amounts to an imputation of the crime and that it is defamatory of my character" .

"The defamatory statement that I conspired to steal from the state while a full reading of the article does not show how I conspired to steal the state is an imputation of the crime and that he is defamatory ".
