A New York mother became the third American woman to die in the last month after undergoing cosmetic surgery at a clinic in the Dominican Republic.
Alexandra Medina, 33, from New Rochelle, NY, underwent a tummy tuck at the Dr. Ureña Arias clinic in Santo Domingo on July 4th. She died of pulmonary embolism, Sin Noticias said.
According to the New York Post, Medina leaves behind a partner and a 14-year-old son.
His death follows the death of two other Americans who underwent cosmetic surgery at the same clinic.
Alicia Williams, a woman from Alabama, died on June 7 at the age of 45, and Sharlim Paulino, 26, of New York City, pbaded away on June 20, according to El Nuevo Diario.
On a Facebook page, the Medina family page has been created. They said that she went to the Dominican Republic to have the same doctor perform the same operation as the other two victims.
But they allege that Dr. Felix Almánzar withdrew at the last minute and was replaced by another doctor because he was "scared" after the deaths of the other two patients.
Medina's sister, Maxine David, told CBS New York that American doctors were refusing to practice this procedure unless she was losing weight beforehand, but that Almánzar was saying that it was not necessary. was not a problem.
Her family said she warned that she would not follow the procedure after he had asked for the full amount of the bill from the start.
