The contractors besieged the Ministry of Roads and Highways, demanding payment for the completed road and drainage works.
"We are here to see the minister," said a group leader, Matilda Wemegah of JoyNews. She reports that some of the leaders were stranded at a meeting with the minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta.
He estimates that about 100 entrepreneurs converged, lined up along the aisles and grouped under awnings.
Many of them say that the government has accumulated debts since 2016. One of the subcontractors, wearing a red armband, beat his song "Akyem mafia !, Akyem caucus!" Referring to the president and his relatives in the government.
A contractor explained to Matilda Wemegah that after funding the construction of the Kasoa storm sewers in the central region, he did not receive a penny for the work done in 2015.
"Madam, to be honest with you, I just can not explain how we live. It's just by grace … Some of our members are shocked to die, "said one of them to the reporter.

Another, Victor, said that he had repaired potholes and that drainage work had occurred as early as 2006. The contractor who stated that he employs 10 workers recalled that the payment of the work was fluid. "Before they see, they credit your account," he said.
But under the Akufo-Addo government, getting paid for work done was an unsustainable pain. He said that he patched potholes in La Nkwantanang in Madina in 2015 and 2016 and also worked in the central region.
He said he was not paid for this work. Life has become difficult, he explains, explaining that he can no longer operate his car and that he has resorted to public transportation. Some of the contractors say that, despite providing documents proving the work they have done, they still have not been paid.
The entrepreneurs did not want to indicate the amount due to them. They say that they constantly hear the Minister of Roads and Highways claim that the government has released money to pay the contractors.
But the checks show that none of them has been paid.
A 2018 report by the Parliamentary Committee on Roads and Transport showed that the government owed more than 3.69 billion GHAC to road contractors for projects financed from consolidated funds and road funds.
The annual budget report of the Ministry of Roads and Highways for 2019, published in December 2018, showed that the government had paid 2.2 billion GH ¢ to pay off part of the debt due to entrepreneurs, but a large part remains unpaid while interest accrues.
