According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Zimbabwe owes about $ 196 million to airlines that have been stranded in the country due to lack of currency

IATA Regional Vice President for Africa, Muhammad Ali Albakri, said Tuesday that the latest payment received by the agency was in January.

The group met with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and will now finalize the payment plan, he added.

The country is struggling with a shortage of foreign currency, including the US dollar, which is needed to transfer the proceeds of ticket sales locally to the airlines.
