The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) congratulated the Electricity Distribution Service (PDS) and the Ghana Limited Water Company (GWCL) of the Eastern Region for their collaboration with the PURC, which solved quickly complaints from customers.

PURC Regional Operations Director, Alhaji Jabaru Abukari, who congratulated the two institutions at a meeting with the management of service providers in Koforidua, noted that such collaboration improved the results to the satisfaction client.

Between January and June 2019, the PURC received a total of 818 complaints, including extra billing, non-billing and unlawful disconnections from PDS among others, of which 764, or 93.40%, were handled by 181 people, or 99.45, or 99.45%, out of 182 complaints received by PURC against GWCL, were also resolved.

Alhaji Jabaru, however, urged them to strengthen their control mechanism to prevent illegal connections, as well as to comply with existing revenue recovery procedures, by giving defaultors payment plans that allow them to Prevent customers from accumulating bills and creating problems for service providers.

Regarding the new tariffs, the Director of Operations indicated that consumers would react mbadively and urged them to take the time necessary to explain the obvious questions posed by the public.

He also asked corporate management to be proactive in developing modern methods of bill collection and reducing business losses in order to strengthen corporate operations.

Mr. Jude Aduamoah-Addo, PURC's East Regional Director, also thanked utility companies for their quick response to the complaints they received and urged them to also expand their channels of communication with their customers.

He also advised them to intensify their educational activities to educate customers about the need to pay their bills quickly and to the effects of water pollution, in order to build healthy relationships with consumers.

Ing. Michael Baah, Regional Head of Eastern PDS, thanked the CURC for its role in regulating PDS activities in the region, adding that the PDS needed its help to work effectively by serving its needs well. customers.

Mr. Dwamena Boateng, Regional Director of GWCL, discussed some of the issues his work was facing, including power outages and lack of distribution lines. He thanked the PURC for its support.
