Everyone wants to be Chick-fil-A, including McDonald's

All restaurants in America want to be Chick-fil-A.

Of course, they do not want to directly copy the unique economic model of the production chain. But more and more chains have noticed that Chick-fil-A is booming – and they want to participate in the action of fried chicken.

In 2018, Chick-fil-A achieved total sales of $ 10.46 billion in the United States, making it the third largest chain in the United States in terms of sales. On average, a Chick-fil-A site has generated annual sales of $ 4.6 million in 2018, compared to $ 4.2 million in 2017, more than any other fast food chain in America. The average location of McDonald's generated $ 2.8 million.

Now, McDonald's franchisees would request that a chicken sandwich capable of competing with Chick-fil-A be added to the menu. CNBC announced this week that a group of McDonald's franchisees were calling on the fast food giant to make the development of a new chicken sandwich the "top priority" of the chain.

"The Chick Fil A results demonstrate the power of the chicken," said the National Owners Association's council in an email sent by Amelia Lucas of CNBC.

It seems that the McDonald's business team is already considering the increased demand for chicken. The chain plans to launch in mid-September the frozen BBQ and barbeque sandwiches, according to leaked documents shared with Business Insider.

McDonald's is not the only channel to add new chicken options to the menu.

Buffalo Wild Wings launches the hot chicken sandwich in Nashville and the South chicken sandwich in August.

In August, Buffalo Wild Wings prepares two new fried chicken sandwiches: the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and the South Chicken Sandwich.

Paul Brown, CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings' parent company, Inspire Brands, told Business Insider in April that the fried chicken sandwich being developed was better than any rival's, including Chick-fil-A.

"The one we tested will be much better than anything on the market," said Brown. "It's the bar! I think we will win."

In April, Cracker Barrel released a new fried chicken from the south. At a recent meeting with Gordon Haskett's Jeff Farmer, the leaders said the channel was planning to focus future innovations on fried chicken, including a sandwich.

"The management expects that the chicken entrees will include (1) home-style chicken (two boneless fried chicken bads), which will go from a Sunday only to a full-time menu, (2) chicken fillets and (3) a chicken sandwich "Famer wrote in a note to investors Thursday.
