MenzGold boss Nana Appiah Mensah
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's economic management team is currently facing a crisis at Jubilee House following the arrival of Menzgold's chief executive, Nana Appiah Mensah.
Sources at the meeting tell Ghanacrusader that the government has been shaken by the political repercussions of the Mezgold saga's nature and that it is looking for a way to handle the situation before the 2020 elections.
Although Nana Appiah Mensah, known as NAM1, is currently in the custody of the Ghana police under interrogation, the political circles believe that the large number of Menzgold clients, whose funds are tied up in investments, could turn against the government in next year's elections.
"You know that Menzgold has a lot of customers in the Ashanti region and in Takoradi. These areas have given us a lot of votes in the 2016 elections. The government must handle this situation, otherwise it will be in trouble one day, "the source said.
Some of Menzgold's clueless customers joined an event called "Kum Yen Preko" in Accra a few days ago and expressed anger at the government for the mediocre nature of the saga.
The main actors in the nuclear power plants told the journalist that NAM1 had generously supported the NPP and Akufo-Addo's bid to win the 2016 elections and should not be called misery.
And indeed, NAM1 has received protection from the government in its difficult times.
Today's meeting should allow the economic management team to deploy an antidote to manage and meet the expectations of many of Menzgold's customers.
The source revealed that the ticket from NAM1 to Ghana via Dubai was paid for by an NPP financier.
Many have suggested to the government to badume Menzgold's debt and pay the customers as it does in the case of customers of the DKM Ponzi system.
