Manchester United wants to make Longstaff its third young British signing of the summer.
The club has already brought Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Swansea and Crystal Palace, respectively.
Ole manager Gunnar Solskjaer wants to reorganize his aging United team with young players ready to commit to the club.
And the Norwegian considers Longstaff as one of those players.
United is confident they can persuade Longstaff to leave St James's Park for £ 25m, but Newcastle has rejected the Red Devils' initial approach.
The midfielder entered the eleventh match at Newcastle in the middle of last season and was impressed before knee injury against West Ham.
And according to the Mirror, Longstaff is willing to accept that Newcastle, who wants to get close to £ 50 million from United, will convince Executive Vice President Ed Woodward to make a decision.
Longstaff is eager to settle in United but is fully committed to staying in his Newcastle Boyhood Club.
Solskjaer is looking for reinforcements in midfield after Ander Herrera's departure and with Paul Pogba's future at the club in the air.
Long-term staff would suit Solskjaer's plans, as would Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
Fernandes is also linked to a move to Old Trafford after his brilliant season in Portugal.
The midfielder scored 20 goals and had 13 badists last season in the league for the sport.
Pogba, meanwhile, hinted that he wanted to settle in Real Madrid's dream club in search of a new challenge.
"I have been in Manchester for three years and have had good times and bad times, like everyone else, like everywhere else," he said.
"After this season and all that has happened, with my season as my best season … it could be a good time to take on a new challenge elsewhere."
