ROMELU LUKAKU was excluded from the Manchester United team to face Perth Glory due to a "niggle", according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Belgian striker – with center back Victor Lindelof – will not play any role in the Optus stadium clash, although the two men are fighting over Leeds on Wednesday.
Ivorian international Eric Bailly and Lee Grant are also absent.
The summer rookie, Daniel James, makes his first start for the Reds, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka had to settle for a spot on the bench – much to the frustration of the fans.
In dealing with the confrontation, the Norwegian said: "They are all fine, we have some small problems and we just want to protect them.
"We should see them on Wednesday, I think."
Lukaku, 26, was closely linked to a United start this summer. The head of Inter Milan, Piero Ausilio, confirmed that his team had made an approach for him.
He said, "It was an official approach between two important clubs, we'll see what happens."
"All the players we follow are goals we agreed with Antonio Conte.
"We want to satisfy his demand in certain financial parameters."
But it is understood that the last Inter offer for the former Chelsea striker is still 10 million pounds lower than United's valuation.
Lukaku could now move to Old Trafford for another season if the Italian club does not pay £ 75m for the former Everton star.
