An badociate professor of political science at the University of Ghana wonders if the pre-2016 election promise of the new patriotic party (NPP) that he has men to govern the country is still valid.
Professor Ransford Gyampo's dilemma was created following the reappointment of Kwame Owusu as Chair of the Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Mr. Owusu made the headlines last year when, at the head of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), he would have spent 66,000 GH ¢ for the construction of a kitchen cabinet . He also admitted to having spent $ 1 million to renovate a two-bedroom house into a four-bedroom house – many said the price of the renovation was too high.
Mr. Owusu also raised his eyebrows when it appeared that the renovated house had 11 air conditioners. He defended the number of air conditioners, claiming that their number should have been 13 as this was more suited to his status as General Manager of the Maritime Authority.
Shortly after Mr. Owusu's scandals with the Ghana Maritime Authority, he resigned although the outcome of an investigation into allegations of embezzlement remains underpinned .
Professor Ransford Gyampo, Newsfile, is questioned Saturday on the question of why the ruling NPP would risk controversy by re-appointing Mr Owusu.
"His [Mr Owusu] own answers when this question appeared is not helpful. The sarcasm and arrogance displayed were and the way he went about it was not helpful.
"Once again, I have a little difficulty. The NPP of the current administration, is it still considered the party that has the men to govern?" If the party still maintains its reputation of to have men to govern … so it's a little difficult for me to see why the same person, 65 years old, is coming back, "said Professor Gyampo on Newsfile.
Another revelation against Mr. Kwame Owusu that irritated the majority of Ghanaians is that he blew 135.125 GH ¢ a night of food and 10 652 GH ¢ another food opportunity for only eight people.
Professor Gyampo stated that the reappointment of Mr. Owusu "also gives the impression that the President may not have been so concerned about the allegations that had been made against him".
