A DIAMOND could be forever under Frank Lampard in Chelsea.

The club's new manager, who replaced Maurizio Sarri, who irritated the fans with a rigid 4-3-3 system, tested the tactical change in the team's second friendly match in Dublin.

Lampard has tinkered with training in the second half but that proves that he is looking to make the most of this current group of players since he has a transfer ban.

Chelsea set up a much stronger team than the one that drew 1-1 against the Bohemians on Wednesday with Jorginho at the base of the diamond, Ross Barkley at the top with Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic on either side.

COMPLETE WINNER

Mount was loaned to Derby last season by Lampard, alongside defender Fikayo Tomori, who also came on.

The Blues played against Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi and were comfortable with their hosts who had played a home game against the Europa League three days earlier.

Chelsea took the lead thanks to Mount with a smart shot in the 15th minute and Emerson raised the score to 2-0 thanks to a screamer from his goalkeeper, Barry Murphy, about 15 minutes later.

As the previous evening, Lampard set up a completely different team for the second period, with Olivier Giroud and Kasey Palmer on the front.

Lampard also opted for a more traditional 4-4-2 with a flat four-man midfielder, which included Scottish teen Billy Gilmour.

Chelsea seems to have a surprisingly high number of fans here in Ireland, they sang the name of Lampard throughout the second half and then could celebrate a double in the second half of Giroud.

The Frenchman scored in the 67th and 88th minutes to strengthen his chances of leading the Chelsea streak next season.

Eric Molloy, the Bohemian goals winner on Wednesday, was also on the bench for St Patrick's.

But it's fair to say that he will probably not realize a hat trick and will only play for Kawasaki Frontale in Japan against Chelsea next Friday.
