Manchester United have distanced themselves from midfielder Mario Lemina of Southampton.

The Gabonese international was banned from the Southampton pre-season tour after the club accepted Lemina's wish to leave this summer.

The 25-year-old, who left Juventus to settle in the Saints, was a target for Arsenal before his transfer to the south coast and the Gunners would again be interested in his services.

Lemina is believed to be in favor of a move to Old Trafford, but according to ESPN, United has eased expectations over a move for the midfielder.

United has been stunned by Newcastle's £ 50m long-term valuation of Longstaff and plans to end its stake in the 21-year-old company.

Ed Woodward met with representatives of the Magpies last week and submitted a proposal worth 18 to 20 million pounds sterling.

But Newcastle have no interest in letting the midfielder go and cited the £ 55 million United pay for Aaron Wan-Bissaka as proof of the market where a player of Longstaff quality is.

Lemina, meanwhile, desperately wants to leave St Mary's and shared a video this week on her official Twitter page, which shows her skills since her stint in the Premier League.
