NCCE Vice President, Operations, Samuel Asare Akuamoah
The vice president in charge of operations of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, urged eligible voters to pay close attention to the December 2019 referendum on the issue. Election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Leaders (MMDCE).
Mr. Akuamoah noted that the time had come for Ghanaians to show a high level of patriotism and to fully engage in their civic duties, including participating in national elections to help consolidate democratic gains of the country.
Calls from Ghanaians
He added that the vote to amend Article 55 (3) of the Constitution entrenched to allow the election of MMDCE on a partisan basis had become necessary as a result of fervent appeals by Ghanaians to fine-tune the Constitution to advance key democratic advances. since the return to constitutional rule on January 7, 1993.
Mr. Akuamoah made these statements at a follow-up meeting of a social audit project in Menuso, Kadjebi District, Oti Region.
He added that although Ghanaians have a duty to participate in all national elections and referendums, dual nationality holders have the right to vote in elections, but can not be elected unless they cancel one of their nationalities.
Popular participation
Mr. Akuamoah also advised them to participate in the development of their communities in which they lived, the government can not do it alone.
Mr. Daniel Agbesi Latsu, Director of CNCE in Kadjebi District, urged them to participate in the state's decision-making process and its development efforts at all levels.
Mr. Latsu said that they should participate in this process and express their views on issues of national interest.
He said that the situation in which Ghanaians were sitting on the fence to engage the blame game when things go wrong should stop.
Assembly member of the Menuso constituency, Baba Abdul-Rahman, thanked the commission for its educational program and called for more such commitments.
