Martin A.B.K. Amidu, Special Prosecutor
Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, a private lawyer, said that the new charges brought against the deputy of Central Bawku, Mahama Ayariga, by the special prosecutor, Martin Amidu, were the result of the member's envy and hatred.
According to him, the manner in which the Special Prosecutor performs his duties is disappointing. He therefore believes that his accusations against the MP are evidence of personal hatred.
The five new charges, which are not so different from the previous ones, which had been dropped by a high court in Accra, were essentially aimed at fraudulent tax evasion, tax evasion of customs duties and currency trading without permit.
The court said that the special prosecutor's right was not allowed by law to prosecute the deputy of Bawku Central for the charges against him.
All charges relate to the MP's import of three Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles in 2017, funded in part by a loan mechanism guaranteed by Parliament and available to all MPs.
However, Mr. Tamakloe, who is the lead counsel for the member in conflict, said, although he believes in probity and accountability, that the recent actions of the special prosecutor describe selective justice.
He felt that Mr. Amidu, because of his actions, had undermined the official intentions of his office.
"I think that Martin Amidu's conduct is the result of pure hatred and envy. Appointing Mr. Ayariga for prosecution is no longer an official issue, but a personal agenda. As a lawyer, I believe in probity and responsibility, but I certainly hate blood feud and selective justice, as illustrated by the recent actions of Mr. Martin Amidu, "he said. at Okay FM, based in Accra, under the supervision of Adomonline.com.
